Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government and in collaboration with National Mission for Clean Ganga, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India; organized a Scoping Mission for evaluating the potential of Indo-German cooperation for the Ganga Rejuvenation in October, 2014. The mission concluded that a German commitment could bring added value in fields such as River Basin Management, Industrial and Domestic wastewater management and Water Governance.
Against this background an appraisal mission was launched from March 12 to 24, 2015. The Mission team members comprised of national and international experts. The appraisal mission built the basis for designing the concrete project to be implemented by GIZ under the Indo-German cooperation on Ganga Rejuvenation
The partnership with MoWR and NMCG has been strengthened and the future project will be implemented together. The envisaged fields of cooperation are strategic support on central and state level for River Basin Management as well as sector-specific support for urban sanitation and industrial pollution.
