GIZ India’s sanitation project ‘Support to National Urban Sanitation Policy”, and Doon University visited the city of Joshimath as part of the ‘Training and Handholding’ support for preparation of ‘City Sanitation Plan’ (CSP). The team met the Chairperson of Joshimath, Ms. Rohini Rawat, under whose guidance the City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF) was conducted. The CSTF meeting was participated by the ULB officials, representatives of various departments, Sarah Habersack from GIZ and Doon University’s team members.

Place: Mumbai, Maharashtra

A half day training programme on DPR preparations for solid waste management was organised by Swachh Maharashtra Mission (SMM) jointly with GIZ, SNUSP II.  This was organised to capacitate the ULBs and the identified consultants of Maharashtra on preparing division wise DPRs. It was inaugurated by Mrs. Mahiskar, Principal Secretary of Urban Development (UD) Department, Government of Maharashtra.  She inaugurated the event along with the Executive Director Ms. Seema Dhamdhere, and Mission Director Dr. Uday Tekade r of Swachh Maharashtra Mission and Mrs. Vaishali Nandan, Senior Advisor, GIZ-SNUSP II.

Place: Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu declared Andhra Pradesh an Open Defecation Free state during a public event commemorating the national programme on cleanliness 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan''.  During the event Mr. Naidu along with senior officials and Mr. Dirk Walther, Project Director-GIZ; released AP-State Sanitation Strategy ( AP-SSS) and Guidelines for Public and Community Toilets Management by Cities.

Place: Hyderabad, Telangana

The innovative project on Non-Conventional Wastewater Treatment of Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC) was awarded the prestigious ‘Skoch – Platinum’ Award during the 45th Skoch Summit organised at Hyderabad. The project is supported by GIZ’s sanitation project ‘Support to National Urban Sanitation Policy-II’ (SNUSP-II). The project of KMC had been qualified amongst the “Top 100 Projects in India”. In continuation to ‘Skoch – Order of Merit’ award and achieved in the second round the “Skoch Platinum -Award” under Smart City – Wastewater Category.

Location: Chittur-Thatamangalam, Kerala

A City Sanitation Task Force meeting was conducted by the Chittur-Thatamangalam Municipality to discuss the draft CSP report for approval – as part of the Suchitwa Mission and GIZ-CSE supported ‘Training and Handholding on Preparation of CSP’. The draft CSP of the city and action plan for sanitation improvement for next 30 years were discussed during the meeting. The objective was to get approval and create ownership for the CSP.

The Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development, Shri Venkaiah Naidu launched the Municipal Solid Waste Management Manual during the launch event of Swachh Survekshan 2017on 6th August 2016 at the National Media Centre in Delhi. The hon’ble Minister launched the manual along with Mr. Rajiv Gauba, Secretary MoUD; Mr.Wolfgang Hanning, Country Director GIZ and many others. The Manual for Municipal Solid Waste Management is the new guidebook for all cities on how to improve their waste management.

Swachh Maharashtra Mission (SMM), Govt. of Maharashtra and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  in presence of the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Devendra Fadnavis and Mr. Michael Siebert, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai.

In the MoU both SMM and GIZ agreed to collaborate jointly for achieving the goals of Swachh Maharashtra Mission of Govt. of Maharashtra.

Swachha Andhra Corporation(SAC), Government of Andhra Pradesh and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) signed a MoU in  the presence of the Honourable Chief Minister of  Andhra Pradesh –Mr N, Chandra Babu Naidu. In the MoU both SAC and GIZ agreed to jointly collaborate  for the implementation of state of Andhra’s ‘Swachh Andhra Pradesh’ mission and achieve the objectives of  ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.

GIZ-SNUSP II  and BITS organised ‘Round Table Discussion’ on use of Terra Preta Sanitation for Septage Management in India as part of the in international conference  on Tera Preta Sanitation and Decentralised Wastewater treatment. Many international experts and researchers participated in the roundtable discussion. The discuss was held to understand the potentials for use of Terra Preta for septage management in India.

Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC) in association with GIZ-SNUSP-II along with the support of Suchitwa Mission and Kerala Water Authority launched the non-conventional wastewater management system. The event was honoured by Shri. Tony Chammany, Hon. Mayor, Smt. Badra, Dy. Mayor, Shri. K.J.Sohan, Chairman – Town Planning Standing Committee and respective Ward Councillors and officials of corporation.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), Govt of Telangana has approved the Telangana State Sanitation Strategy in its Govt Order. The Telangana State Sanitation Strategy was prepared with the technical   support of Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in consultation with the State Level Sanitation Committee chaired by the Principal Secretary, MA&UD Department.

An appraisal mission was conducted by GIZ for the extension of its project Support to National Urban Satnitation Policy (SNUSP). The project SNUSP is supporting MoUD in improving the sanitation condition of urban India and make the cities healthy, safe and liveable. The mission  visited the state of Uttarakhand for engagement with Indian partners at national and state level for improved sanitation and solid waste management in the state.

Shri. Oomen Chandy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala released the State Sanitation Strategy of Kerala at a function organized to launch, the state’s campaign on Solid Waste Management ‘Freedom from Waste Campaign’.

The strategy has been developed and published by Suchitwa Mission with technical support from GIZ-SNUSP II.

Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and GIZ laid the foundation stone for the Waste to Energy project at Nashik to mark the start of the plant construction of the Waste to Energy plant. Dr. Praveen Gedam, Commissioner, Nashik and Mr. Dirk Walther, Project Director, GIZ, laid the foundation stone on 4th September 2015 at the project site - Pathardi, near the solid waste management facility of Nashik.

GIZ Appraisal Mission on Ganga Rejuvenation

Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government and in collaboration with National Mission for Clean Ganga, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India organized a Scoping Mission for evaluating the potential of Indo-German cooperation for the Ganga Rejuvenation in October, 2014. The mission concluded that a German commitment could bring added value in fields such as River Basin Management, Industrial and Domestic wastewater management and Water Governance.

GIZ as part of the IndoGerman Cooperation has extended Technical Cooperation for urban sanitation programmes of Ministry of Urban Development. MoUD and GIZ sign the 'Implementation Agreement' for SNUSP II that comprises German government's financial as well as technical contribution to focus on measures against discharge of untreated waste water in Indian cities.
