SNUSP with Municipal Administration Department of MA & UD Andhra Pradesh, felicitated 10 ULBs for preparing City Sanitation Plan (CSP)

Municipal Administration Department of MA & UD Andhra Pradesh organised a two day Review Workshop from 22.12.2016 to 23.12.2016 at Executive Club, Vijayawada, AP. Reviewing and sharing the City Sanitation Plan(CSP) prepared by 10 ULBs was also one of the key agenda points of the workshop.
In Andhra Pradesh, GIZ has partnered with C & DMA and Swachha Andhra Corporation, MA Department to take the process of preparation of City Sanitation Plans (CSP) ahead by building their capacities. GIZ along with Centre for Science Environment (CSE) trained 10 selected ULBs (Amalapuram, Anantapuramu, Bhimavaram, Chilakaluripeta, Eluru, Kakinada, Kadiri, Nandyal, Nellore Narasaraopeta) of the state on stepwise CSP preparation through a three stage training and handholding process from July 2015 to April 2016. . The objective was to enable the ULBs to prepare their own plan (for better ownership) through a robust consultative process and identification of priority projects that improve the overall sanitation situation. These 10 Urban Local Bodies have completed preparing their CSPs following all the processes that involves participation of other stakeholders of the city, analysis of ground realities and choosing of sustainable and manageable technologies. This participation of stakeholders has helped build ownership of the planning document and lead to the preparation of a robust CSP that reflects the needs and demands of the city in terms of improved sanitation, In order to share the results, challenges and learning of this process for upscaling the City Sanitation Plan in the entire state, GIZ and the selected ULBs were specially invited.
Mr. Dirk Walther, Project Director, NUSP, Ms. Monika Bahl, Senior Advisor, NUSP and Mr. M. Manoj Kumar, Technical Expert, SNUSP participated in the workshop. There were three sessions wherein GIZ team made comprehensive presentation on the entire CSP process and challenges and learning. Mr. Dirk Walther has set the tone of GIZ and CSP process. The Municipal Commissioners of the 10 ULBs shared their experience and learning on the CSP with rest of the ULBs. There were around 300 delegates (Commissioners, Mayors, Chairpersons, Sanitary Inspectors) who participated in the workshop.
Mr. Kanna Babu, IAS Director Municipal Administration and Mr. Dirk Walther felicitated the 10 ULBs with Memento and certificate of appreciation towards their contribution on the CSP process.
