Observation of World Environment Day celebration on 5th June 2014 – One day workshop on Waste Management in Kerala

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 to raise awareness towards positive environmental action to protect nature and the Planet Earth. In Kochi Solid Waste Management is one of the key issues that is creating environmental concerns. In order to bring out the desired attitudinal and behavioural change amongst local people towards Waste Management and environmental protection, Suchitwa Mission started an initiative of intensive Information Education Communication Campaign on the World Environment day.

As the first step towards the campaign a one day workshop was organised on 5th June 2014 in association with GIZ (“Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit”), Germany. The central theme of the workshop is “ Significance of Waste Management today: Issues in Kerala and the way ahead”. The meeting was felicitated by elected representatives, senior officials, GIZ team members, representatives from urban local bodies & rural panchayats, researchers and students. Topics related to waste management & issues, various technologies, strategies for managing, future needs was presented during the occassion.
