About the project
The project, Support to National Urban Sanitation Policy (SNUSP) – II, seeks to support Indian government in implementation of its sanitation improvement schemes and missions such as National Urban Sanitation Policy (NUSP), Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Mission) and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). The objective of the project, is to support Indian states and their cities to take effective measures for avoiding pollution caused by wastewater and municipal solid waste. The project works at national, state and city level, the main focus being at state level for upscaling the measures. This three-tier approach makes local solutions replicable, enables them to have a broad impact and promotes the vertical exchange of knowledge.
Together with its partners, the project prepares and disseminates guidelines for overall urban sanitation plans suitable for medium-sized cities, prepare quality criteria for investment projects and develop manuals for technical solutions. It capacitates state and city officials to manage sanitation better. With an aim to strengthen sanitation sector the project is providing technical support in the areas that includes systems for managing faecal sludge, operating models for public toilets with focus on women health & safety and systems for non-conventional and decentralized wastewater management.
Indian states and their towns and cities clean, healthy, safe and hygienic for all its citizen with a focus on women and children.
